Absolutely Maritimes documentary series now airing

CBC is celebrating Canadian filmmakers with the Absolutely Maritimes documentary series. Each week, the one-hour series showcases documentaries and performance programs that tell stories from communities throughout the Maritimes exploring the region's unique culture, history and talent.



The 2018 lineup includes:


Surviving the Fundy Footpath - July 28, 8 p.m.

Producer - Craig Norris

An adventure doc comedy that follows mega-novice Bruce Persaud, a city slicker from Toronto, as he attempts to complete one of Canada's toughest multi-day hikes, the treacherous Fundy Footpath. WATCH

The Halifax Explosion - August 4, 8 p.m.

Producer - Johanna Eliot

On the 100th anniversary, this documentary looks at the causes, effects and lasting memories and legacies of the tragic event. WATCH

The Bridge Over the Atlantic - August 11, 8 p.m.

Producer - Stuart Cresswell

Two fiddlers from Cape Breton retrace their Scottish family and musical roots and bring two Scottish musicians back to Nova Scotia for the annual Celtic Colours festival. WATCH

In French S'il Vous Plait - August 18, 8 p.m.

Director - Fabien Melanson

When Fabien and Christine's eldest child enrolls in French-language kindergarten, the family must make a huge effort to strengthen their Acadian roots. WATCH

12 Dog's Drive - August 25, 8 p.m.

Producer - Greg Hemmings

Justin Allen runs his 12 sled dogs home from Churchill, Man. to Saint John, N.B. The 3000-kilometre journey unfolds over deep snow, open tundra, Hudson Bay and he faces epic challenges as winter turns to spring. With a support team including his Cree fiancé, they explore the origins of dog sledding and get help from native communities along the way. WATCH ONLINE AUGUST 25


Sweet Marie - The Music of Erin Costelo - September 1, 8 p.m.

Director - Amelia Curran

This documentary follows the singer-songwriter's creative process as she creates an album of original music in just 10 days, taking inspiration from the Nova Scotia countryside and a team of talented musicians. WATCH ONLINE SEPTEMBER 1
